Somali pirates holding as US Captain Richard Phillips on a drifting lifeboat vowed on Friday. US Captain Richard Philips was managed to escape from lifeboat but he was recaptured by Somali pirates again according to US media reports. Somali Pirates are holding an American to fight any attack by U.S. naval forces.
According to NBC news “The escape attempt by Capt Richard Phillips was witnessed by a US navy ship nearby but happened too fast for it to come to his aid”. “The safe return of the captain is the top priority,” US Defence Secretary Robert Gates told reporters in Washington. FBI experts are helping negotiate his release. But the negotiations may be huge as Somali Pirates likely to want a hefty ransom for the captain as well as compensation for a boat that was wrecked in the attack.
The unarmed container ship, the Maersk Alabama, was the first American vessel to be captured in a wave of pirate attacks off the Horn of Africa.
