Cricket Champions League 2009 expanded from 8 to 12 teams which includes domestic Twenty20 winners of West Indies, Sri Lanka and New Zealand, as well as Delhi Daredevils. The Delhi Daredevils have been included on the basis of having topped the round-robin stage of the 2009 IPL.
Champions League is going to be held in India from October 8-23 and the prize money for the tournament will be US$ 6 million. This season finalist Bangalore Royal Challengers and Deccan Chargers are qualified for the Cricket Champions League along with Delhi Daredevils. Other domestic teams for Champions League are Victoria and New South Wales from Australia, Cape Cobras and Eagles from South Africa, Otago from New Zealand, Trinidad and Tobago from West Indies and Wayamba from Sri Lanka. As England’s Twenty20 Cup begins on Monday so finalists will be decided on August 25.
In the Champions League there will four groups including three teams in each group and each team will play league matches then the top two teams from each group move on to the second stage. The four top teams from there will play the semi-finals. There will be 23 matches in all and the draw will be held in London on June 23 after which the venues will be finalised.
