Serena Williams defeated Elena Dementieva with 6-7 (4-7) 7-5 8-6 in Wimbledon semi-finals. Serena Williams become the first player to reach the finals in Wimbledon 2009 after defeating Elena Dementieva in a two hours and 48 minutes match. Serena Williams saved a match point in a marathon tussle with Elena Dementieva. It was a close encounter between two, Dementieva had a match point at 5-4 in a tense third set, but Williams came up with a brave volley to save it.

The American second seed, Serena Williams will face her sister Venus Williams or Dinara Safina on Saturday. The Russian, looking to reach her first Wimbledon final, held her nerve to come through the first-set tie-break, despite double-faulting on her first set point. But Serena Williams came back well in the second and third set to defeat Elena Dementieva and she reached the Finals for the fifth time.
