India won with 5-4 Penalty shootout
India defeated Syria in a 5-4 penalty shoot-out on Nehru Cup Final 2009. The defending Champion India lifted the Nehru Cup once again by beating Syria on Monday. The Man of the moment was Indian Goal Keeper Subroto Paul, who saved three penalties to become India’s saviour.
Both teams were scored one goal each in Full time at Nehru Cup final, at the end of extra time forcing a penalty shootout which the home team won 5-4. India has won the Nehru Cup at 2007 and now they have won the second Nehru Cup in 2009.
Climax Lawrence, Sunil Chhetri, Steven Dias, Anwar Ali and Surkumar Singh scored in the shootout for India but Renedy Singh and Meharajuddin Wadoo had missed the target.
The shots taken by Hamzeh Al Attouni, Wael Ayan and Ahmad Haj Muhammad were saved by Paul for Syria and Raja Rafe, Mosab Balhous, Abdul Fatah Alaga and Abdul Razak Al Hussain scored in the shootout for Syria
