India 385 for 6 (Dravid 177*, Dhoni 110, Yuvraj 68, Welegedara 3-75) v Sri Lanka

India which had won the toss in 1st Test against Sri Lanka elected to bat first and it dominated the day 1 with the bat. India finished the Day 1 by scoring 385 runs for the loss of six wickets against Sri Lanka and it was highest score by India in Day 1 in the test cricket. All credit goes to Rahul Dravid(177*) and skipper Dhoni(110) who batted through out the day to help India to recover from 32 for 4 in the first half hour.

It shows the importance of Dravid in the Indian Test Cricket as he led from the front in the Day 1 to recover from 32 for 4 against Sri Lanka. It was Ruhul Dravid’s 27th century and tenth 150-plus score, he became the fifth -highest run-getter in Tests, crossing  Steve Waugh to reach 11,000 career runs. Dhoni scored his second century in test cricket and Yuvraj scored 7th half century in test cricket.

Sri Lanka start was brilliant, Welegedara took three wickets in first four overs and Dammika Prasad also chipped in as Sri Lanka did their best to spoil Tendulkar‘s party. Welegedara gave away just 28 runs in his opening spell of seven overs, but finished the day with figures of 3-75 off 17 overs.
