Result Day -1:
India 417 for 2 (Gambhir 167, Sehwag, 131, Dravid 85*) v  Sri Lanka

India which had won the toss in the 2nd Test finished day 1 by scoring 417 runs by loosing just two wickets against Sri Lanka at Jaypee Cup 2009 in Kanpur. All credit goes to the opening batsman Sehwag(131) and Gambhir(167) as they put quick 233 runs for the first wicket partnership. India dominated the day 1 of 2nd test against Sri Lanka by scoring 417 runs at the run rate of 4.63.

Both openening batsman got out for Muralitharan at Tea but Rahul Dravid (85 not out) and Sachin Tendulkar (20 not out) led India to 417-2 at stumps. It was poor fielding from Sri Lanka in which Mahela Jayawardene dropped Sehwag catch in the first over allowed them to score big score at the day 1. Sehwag then surged ahead of Gambhir and reached his 16th Test century off just 97 balls.
