Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Defending Champions, Deccan Chargers by 11 runs in the inaugural match of IPL season 3 on Friday at Mumbai. Kolkata Knight Riders who have finished last in the IPL 2 came back well under their new captain Saurav Ganguly by defeating Deccan Chargers on Friday. The match was followed by a fantastic opening ceremony at DY Patil Stadium Mumbai.

Deccan Chargers who have won the toss elected to field first and they restricted Kolkata Knight Riders for 161 runs. Angelo Mathews(65*) and Owais Shah(58*) added 130 runs from 31 for 4 to put up a fighting total. Deccan start was well when their skipper Adam Gilchrist scored a half century and added 66 runs for the first wicket partnership along with Laxman. But Kolkata bowlers picked up their game to take regular wickets and allow Deccan Chargers only 51 runs in the last nine overs.
